Biography

The coat of arms for this profile represent "Bjälboättens lagmansgren". There were more than one coat of arms used by different families within the house of Bjälbo.

Name(s)

Magnus' byname Minnesköld could also have been Minnisköld or Månesköld. It is still unclear to what the meaning of his byname would have been.

Parents

Magnus was the son of Bengt Folkesson Snivil.

NOTE: His parents are NOT the fictive characters Arn Magnusson and Cecilia Algotsdotter as is mentioned in the books by Jan Guillou.

Spouse(s) and children

Only one of his wifes are known by her name, Ingrid Ylva and she is thought to be his second wife.

Children with unknown mother;

  • Eskil, a well known and respected lawspeaker in Västergötland.
  • Unknown daughter, married to Sigtrygg Ärkedjäknen Bengtsson (Boberg)

Children in second marriage with Ingrid Ylva:

Estate

  • Bjälbo, the estate is known since the 1000's but Magnus is the first person that is known to have owned the estate. [1]

Death and burial

Historians do not (yet) agree on a death date for Magnus. Two suggested dates exist, possibly 1208-01-31 or 1210-07-17.

Research Notes

  • Elof - might be Ingrid Ylva's son in a later marriage. He had a different seal than his brothers, not the one of the Bjälbo family.
  • The existence of the mother connected here to Magnus, Ulfhild Björnsdotter, is highly disputed by modern historians.[2]

This profile has been disconnected from Knut UNKNOWN. He was not son of Knut, then he would have been known as Knutsson instead of Bengtsson. Andersson-4409 10:21, 7 December 2018 (UTC)

Can anyone find any in formation on his son Elof, born to Ingrid Sunesdotter and married to Kristina Sigurdsdatter Sverresdatter?

Folkkungaätten-2 and Bengtsson-804 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicates. Estimated dates. Sources that go that far back are lacking.
His LNAB should be Bengtsson since Bengt is the name of the father.
