Biography

Joseph Cole (the 2nd Joseph Cole who was a son of John Cole). The first was Joseph Cole (b. c. 1690, d 1720), son of John Cole and his first wife, Johannah Garrett.

Origin

Joseph Cole born c. 1726, probably Baltimore County, Maryland, a son of John Cole and his second wife, Dinah Hawkins.[1]

Marriage

Joseph married about 1760 to Ruth Cross.[1]

Property: Cole Church

When he wrote his will in 1745, Joseph's father, John Cole, left him the "land where he now lives" called Cole Church which was 208 acres.[1][2]

Death and Legacy

The Joseph Cole who died in 1720 named a wife and two children.[1] He could not have been the son of Dinah Hawkins, because John Cole and Dinah Hawkins were married in 1715.[1] That Joseph Cole (the first son by that name) died before 3-13-1719/20 at Patapsco River, Baltimore Co., Maryland. [3]

This Joseph Cole, of this profile, who married Ruth Cross, probably died in Baltimore County, Maryland. We know he was living in Baltimore County in 1745, and we know he was living in 1752 when he married. According to Ralph Tuttle, we do not have record of Joseph's death (Pg 11).[1] (despite the reported year, 1795, per ancestry "trees").

The problem with the resource given on this profile is the author has no primary source information to back up his genealogy. If Joseph married a Ruth Cross she was more likely to be of the family that lived in Baltimore County. For this reason I've changed the location reference and date under the marriage.
