Biography

Frances (Harris) Miller is the descendant of a Huguenot emigrant.

Frances Maupin Harris was born in 1802 to John Harris and Margaret (Maupin) Harris.

She married her second cousin, Major James Miller on 24 Jul 1823 in Madison County, Kentucky.[1]

The 1860 Census shows her and James Miller in Kentucky with four of their children.[2] James died in 1869.

The 1880 Census shows widow Frances Miller living in Kentucky with her son-in-law, William Pettus and daughter Margaret (Miller) Pettus.[3] This Census document erroneously reports that her birthplace was Virginia. Her parents were born in Virginia, but they moved to Kentucky soon after the Revolutionary War, and at least some of her older siblings and Frances were born in Kentucky.

Frances Miller passed away in 1880 in Kentucky and is buried in Richmond, Madison Coutny, Kentucky.

Research Notes

There is another Frances Harris born in Kentucky about this same time. However, she married a Hendricks, and they moved to Missouri. FindAGrave has two different profiles for these two different ladies, but Family Search has them mixed up and conflated. However, if one picks through the Family Search sources, and the references below, the story can be pieced together.

Harris-36856 and Harris-14118 appear to represent the same person because: They are identical. In all respects. Harris-14118 previously was mistakenly tied to Daniel Hamm, who also married a Frances Harris, but it was Frances Jane Harris, 1818-1898. That situation has been corrected, and now a merge has been proposed.
