William Stacy, his wife, and their two children arrived in New Salem in late 1757 or early 1758.[7] In New Salem, William Stacy settled down to a life of farming, shoemaking, and the business of loaning money, with an emphasis on shoemaking and money lending.[7] Timothy Page (or Paige) was his agent.[7]

Captain Stacy left New Salem on the 20th of April in 1775 leading his small band of patriots on the hasty march to Cambridge.[7][15] Major William Stacy took part in the Bunker Hill battle.[7][15]

William served with Col. R. Woodbridge's 25th Regiment.[7][15] William was recommissioned in July 1775.[7][15] William had become a Lieutenant Colonel.[7][15] January 1, 1777, William joined Colonel Ichabod Alden's 7th Massachusetts Regiment.[7][15] William was transferred to the 4th Massachusetts, September 29, 1778.[7][15]

"Col. Stacy was serving at Cherry Valley, New York with Col. Alden, when a large force of Indians and Tories under the Indian Chief Joseph Brant and Capt. Walter Butler attacked and massacred many of the villagers. A large number of the villagers and some of the military, including Col. Stacy, were taken captive. Thus began another chapter in Stacy's life as he was held captive for four years."[7]

William arrived in Marietta, Ohio, in May of 1788.[7] William was the superintendent of building the blockhouses and the Picket Point in Marietta, Ohio.[7]

William returned to Massachusetts in 1789 for the rest of his family.[7] They arrived in Marietta on November 25, 1789.[7] They included his wife Sarah Day Stacy, William Stacy Jr. and family, Joseph Stacy and family, John Stacy, Philemon Stacy, Gideon Stacy, and son-in-law Sylvanus Newton and daughter Elizabeth.[7]

William married widow, Hannah (Coggeshall) Sheffield.[12][16][17][18][19][20]

William died about 1802 in Marietta, Ohio.[3] William may have been buried at Mound Cemetery in Marietta, Ohio.[21][22][23]
