Biography

Origins: 6657 Walsheim am Blies, near. Saarbrucken, Germany Per Jones: "The ancestral German roots of this Mohawk Valley pioneer were documented at 6657 Walsheim a/Blies (16 km. s.e. of Saarbrucken; Chbks. begin 1704, but gaps) and at 6661 Rieschweiler (8 km. e. of Zweibrucken; Chbks. begin 1683). A Rudof Stahelin was conf. 24 April 1707 at Rieschweiler; if this was our emigrant, he joined the church as an adult (HJ). Rudolf Stahli, b. in Switzerland and s/o Rudolf Stahli at Beckweiler (Bockweiler), md. Maria Dorothea...."[1]

Occupation: Per Jones: Rudopf Stahli was called a shepherd in 1707. Also, his wife Dorothea was a daughter of a shepherd[2]

1711: Palatine Volunteers to Canada (Hunterstown, NY)

11 Oct 1715: Naturalization as a British citizen[3]

1716/1717: resided in Neu-Heidelberg, NY[4]

NOTE: he was issued a patent by Indian deed. of 34,000 acres called the Staley Patent on the s. side of the Mohawk River, lying just back of the Burnetsfield Patent. The patent was first issued to Rudolph Stekle 24 Sep 1724 and then by patent to Rudolph Staley and others in 1754 or 1755.[5][6]

28 Sep 1706: Rudolph Stähl married Maria* Dorothea Schild, jin Kirchheim, Germany. She is noted as a daughter of Lucas Shild, shepherd at Kircheim[7]They had the following children:
