Anna (christened as Anna) Addis[1] The name is spelled variously: Addes, Adis, Adys, Ades[2]
Origin
Anna was christened on 17 Mar 1628 at Franmton-on-Severne, Gloucestershire, England, a daughter of William Addis (William Addis was later of Cape Ann, Massachusetts).[1] Her mother was Millicent Wood.[citation needed]
Marriages
"The Brewster Book," a family diary which was owned by Benjamin Brewster, reports that Benjamin married "Anne Dart the last Daye of febeare : 1659/60."[3] Lucy Hall Greenlaw, in an article for The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, writes, "She may have been the widow of Ambrose Dart of Boston who married 'Ann Adis, daughter of William Addis of Cape Ann 24th - 4th month' 1653."[3] The circumstantial evidence supports Ann (Addis) Dart as identical to Ann (Dart) Brewster.
Anna married twice.
She married on April 24, 1653 at Boston as her 1st, to Ambrose Darte/Dart.[1] They had at least one child.[3]
She married (as Anna Dart) on February 28, 1659/60 at Norwich, Connecticut, as her 2nd, to Benjamin Brewster.[1] They had eight children.[1]
Children
Ann (Addis) Dart had one known child with Ambrose Dart, and Anna and Benjamin Brewster had eight children together.
William resided on the family farm, Brewster's Neck, at New London, which he had inherited from his father and brother-in-law.[3] Over the years, due to changes in boundaries and jurisdictions, the farm was in the towns of Norwich, Preston, Groton, and Ledyard.[3]
Death and Legacy
Ann died on May 9, 1709 in Norwich, New London County, Connecticut.[1] She is buried in Brewster's Neck Cemetery, Preston, New London County, Connecticut, USA.[4]
