Biography

This profile is part of the Avery Name Study.

Thomas Avery, son of Capt. James Avery and Joanna Greenslade Avery, was born on 6 May 1650/51 at New London, Connecticut.[1][2]

He married first, 22 Oct 1677 at Stonington, Connecticut, Hannah Minor, daughter of Lt. Thomas Minor and Grace Palmer, on 22 Oct 1676/77 at Stonington, Connecticut. [2]

He married second, Mrs. Hannah (Raymond) Bulkley, widow of Dr. Charles Bulkley and daughter of Joshua Raymond and Elizabeth Smith, on 13 March 1693 at Wethersfield, Connecticut.[2]

Thomas Avery was in King Philips war and was a successful Indian interpreter.

Thomas Avery died on 5 Jan 1736 at Montville, Connecticut, at age 84.[2]

Anderson has the marriage date as Oct. 22, 1672, but this is clearly a typographical error, as Thomas Minor's diary, to which he refers, shows the date as October 22, 1677.[3][4]
