THOMAS TOMSON b. 19 October 1664 Barnstable, Massachusetts Bay Colony; [1] married (late in life, see romantic tale in Middleboro by Weston) on 13 December 1715 in Middleboro, Mary Morton b. 15 December 1689 in Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony d/o John Morton and Mary Ring. (Marriage of Mary Morton implied in her father's 1717/8 will; proven by conveyance by Thomas Tomson and wife Mary on 21 February 1725/6 of land that had belonged to her father. One of Thomas' good friends was John Morton, who had encouraged Thomas, at age 25, to marry. Thomas apparently pointed at Morton's infant daughter Mary and said I shall marry this one when she is of age. Mary Morton was 25 years old when she married Thomas Tomson, who was 50 years of age. [2] Thomas Tomson died intestate, 26 October 1742 in Halifax, Province of Massachusetts Bay: Find A Grave: Memorial #37295548
Thomas Tomson was a farmer and a glazier, setting panes of glass in lead, then setting them in sashes and frames. Prior to this, windows were covered in oil soaked paper. Upon the death of his father, John in1696, he was awarded 700 acres of land. [3]
On 29 September 1742 (sic), administrators of his estate were appointed: son Ruben Tomson (husbandman), widow Mary [Morton] Tomson, John Murdoch of Plymouth and Ebenezer Morton of Middleboro. Inventory of his estate was taken 13 July 1743:[4] it was valued at more than 3,075 pounds and included an enslaved black woman and an enslaved black girl and interest in the stable at the meeting house. The estate was divided on 18 December 1743 among his surviving children. Wife Mary was appointed guardian of minor sons Ebenezer and Zebadiah on 14 July 1743.
Mary (Morton) Tomson died in Halifax, Province of Massachusetts Bay on 20 March 1781. She left a will dated 1 May 1756 and proven 4 July 1781, naming son Ebenezer Tomson, executor, and naming other four surviving sons and descendants of daughter, Mary (Tomson) Waterman, deceased.
The home that Thomas Tomson built in 1720 is still standing in Halifax, Massachusetts at 592 Plymouth Street, currently owned by David Mason.
I can find no source that Patience Tomson was the daughter of Thomas Tomson and Mary (Morton) Tomson. Cunningham-10584 18:04, 24 May 2021 (UTC). The marriage record for Patience Tomson to David Warren lists her father as Thomas Thomson, and her residence as Providence. Is there a different Thomas Thomson living in Providence. I am detaching Patience (Thomson) Warren (abt.1697-aft.1738) from this profile. Earls-502 02:13, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
