Research Notes
Conflated
Between the birth date data field and the biography, 4 different birth places appear to be listed. No reliable source is provided showing the person born in any of these 4 places is the same person died in Charles City County, Virginia. Do we know why he died in Charles City County but was buried in York County? Spratlin-29 00:58, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
Identity
I don't think this is the Robert Harris who married Mary Clayborne, the one who married her:
Son of Captain Thomas Harris and Adria Osborne
Married Mrs. Mary (Claiborne) Rice, a widow, and daughter of Col. William Claiborne, the first Secretary of the Virginia Colony.
Their son, William Harris married Temprerance Overton, dau. of William Overton, the immigrant, and his wife Mary Waters.

This profile needs a clear identity. It lists what appear to be 4 different birth places, and no reliable source proving any of the 4 persons presumably born there is the same person that died in Charles City Co. VA and was then buried in York Co. VA.

The Harris family of Virginia is a tangled mess. Frankly, I don't have the resources to untangle it and have decided to wait until some of the other people up the Wikitree tackle it. Liz Shifflet has worked on it and may be able to help. Claiborne Smith is an oft quoted Virginia genealogist. He may have a definitive answer. See Liz's comment below. The places you mention in Virginia - York County, Charles City County and New Kent County are not all that far apart and may have had shared governance particularly in the 17th Century. Records may have ended up in any of the three. My own records have both Robert and Mary dying in New Kent County. (Check the well-preserved records for St. Peter's Episcopal Church, New Kent.) My own records say that the Robert Harris who married Mary Claiborne was the son of John Harris (1586-1638) of Essex, England and Dorothy Colcott of Limbrey, Essex, England (1590-1638) and that at least John died in Charles City County, Virginia. I am comfortable that this all appears to make sense. This also takes issue with the commentary above. RIck Draper (Draper-310)
"The one thing I refuse to use as support for my conclusions is the myth about Mary Claiborne Rice being the wife of this Robert Harris. It simply is not true. There is a very valid explanation for this whole story. One simply has to examine the factual records as well as Rice genealogy."
The evidence that Thomas's wife was Adria Hoare is that she and her daughter Mary are named in her father's will (see her profile). Speculation that they had a son named William is based on the codicil of Mary's will (see her profile). There is no evidence for a son of Thomas and Adria named Robert.
Looking at the profile for Mary (Claiborne) Rice... no sources for her & comment says she doesn't exist (Secretary Claiborne having only one daughter, not Mary m Rice, Harris).

See Gurganey-1 for information ab out the various theories of Thomas's wives.
