Biography

Sir Alexander (Stewart) Stewart IVth of Garlies was killed in Action during the War of the League of Cambrai at the Battle of Flodden Field.

Sir Alexander Stewart (4th of Garlies) was born about 1481 in Garlieston, Wigtownshire, Scotland. He was the son of Sir Alexander Stewart 3rd (of Garlies) and his wife Elizabeth Douglas.^[1]

He married Janet Gordon on 20 May 1486.^[2][3] They had issue:

Research Notes

• Given his marriage on 20 May 1486, one can infer his birth before 20 May 1472.

• Scots Peerage initially says that Alexander died at Flodden^[1] but in its corrections says that he died in 1500.^[3] The Batthe of Flodden does list Alexander as one of the casualties^[5] so it becomes a challenge to know which statement is correct.
