Sir Alexander Stewart (4th of Garlies) was born about 1481 in Garlieston, Wigtownshire, Scotland. He was the son of Sir Alexander Stewart 3rd (of Garlies) and his wife Elizabeth Douglas.[1]
He married Elizabeth Kennedy of Blairquhan (south Ayrshire, Scotland. They had issue:
Alexander Stewart 5th of Garlies. b.1507 d. 1580
He was killed in battle on the 9 Sep 1513 at the Battle of Flodden Field, Kirknewton, Branxton, Northumberland, England.[1][5]
Research Notes
Given his marriage on 20 May 1486, one can infer his birth before 20 May 1472.
Scots Peerage initially says that Alexander died at Flodden[1] but in its corrections says that he died in 1500.[3] The Batthe of Flodden does list Alexander as one of the casualties[5] so it becomes a challenge to know which statement is correct.
