Biography

1776 Project
Sergeant Seth Holbrook served with 13th Continental Regiment, Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Seth Holbrook was born on 24 February 1752, in Uxbridge, Massachusetts. He was the son of Isaac Holbrook (abt.1725-1756) and Mary (Armstrong) Holbrook (abt.1730-abt.1760).[1]

Seth was four years old when his father died in New York. His guardians were Samuel Read, Jr., administrator of his father's estate, and his grandfather William Holbrook. [2]

Seth married Susannah (Dalrymple) Holbrook (abt.1754-abt.1797) on 24 May 1774 in Uxbridge, Massachusetts.[3]

Seth served in the American Revolution. He was a private in Captain Josiah Wood's company which marched on the alarm of 19 April 1775. He also served in Captain David Batchelor's company Colonel Joseph Read's regiment for three months in 1775. He served as a Sergeant in Captain David Batcheller's company in Colonel Nathan Tylers' regiment in 1780 for the alarm at Rhode Island.[4]

The children of Seth & Susanna were Isaac, Seth, Susanna, Mary, David, Nathan, Lavina, Clarinda & Ira (the older children were born in Northbridge, Worcester, Massachusetts and the younger ones in Colrain, Franklin, Massachusetts.

Seth applied for a pension based on his Revolutionary War service. The family had relocated to Georgetown, Madison County, New York, however the pension records clearly state his Massachusetts service. His declaration was dated 8 October 1832, and he was aged 84. His declaration states the family lived in Colrain, Massachusetts until about 1820, when the moved to Milford, Otsego County, New York. They remained there about two years, then moved to Georgetown.[5] He passed away 23 December 1836, in Georgetown, New York.
