Biography

12 Aug 2017 adoption by Francis E. Berkey (Berkey-120), Making some minor changes for alignment with The Berkey Books (ed, 1&2) and Gingerich & Kreider A&A/M Genealogies. Neither of these references gives a daughter by the name of Elizabeth. The Berkey Book has only 1 generation 2 child named Joseph d,1797 and A&A/M has Jacob 1738-1805, Joseph 1740-1797 & Christian 1742-?. I will investigate further but for now Elizabeth will stay.

13 Aug decided Elizabeth fit so adding to the family.

18 Sep 2017; Well here we go, flying blind. Gingerich & Kreider don't seem to know anything to speak of about Catherine except that someone with that first name married Christian (BK2) and The Berkey Book gives me Caterina Saylor (Seiler) b.1717. I guess we run with the mix. The thing that scares me is Christian (BK11) married Catherine Seiler (SL42) who d. 4/30/1799 so she almost has to be same generation. I wish the earlies had a little more imagination about names especially when some had 10 or 15 of them or more.

23 Sep 2017 - My journey down or up the tree, depending on your point of view, is apt to make some shambles of The Berkey Books because of what I had at one time told Ruth Berkey Reichley (publisher of the books) the 1st 3 "Lines" as they are called are all the same family. Not having realized that as the notes were compiled and published there were probably areas of overlap and mistakes and/or omissions that are going to give me a fit. Most of the information is dependent on various peoples memories or knowledge in the first place or even personality conflicts that lead to confusion. Then there was the perverse use of nicknames that make you think that 2 different people are being talked about not to mention people deciding to change their name spellings. Well here goes. FEB

There is no documentation showing the marriage of Catherina (Saylor) Berkey (1717), Saylor-72 and Christian V (Blough) Blauch I (1715 - 1786), Blough-6. Blauch family history is well documented and does not show any evidence of this marriage. Christian V Blough I married Elizabeth Gastelli about 1735 and sired 4 children. Elizabeth passed about 1747 and Christian arrived in America November 3, 1750 aboard the "Brotherhood" with his 4 children and his brother Hans. Christian remarried about 1754 to Rosana Steck and sired an additional 6 children. No other marriages are documented.

Seiler-187 and Saylor-72 appear to represent the same person because: Hi Mike, I'm headed through the swamp in my thigh highs trying to get it straight. Although 2 spellings involved, The Berkey Books use Saylor with (Seiler) right after. I guess after 300 years it doesn't matter a lot. I would like you to approve the merge so the number of duplicates thins out a little. Like I once said, the Berkey families just plain had too many Christians and Jacobs. I have 2 Great-granddaughters with non-confusing names. The oldest is Hebe Punky Sines and her sister is Honey Bea Sines. No conhfusion there.
