Rebecca was born 1754 in Rutherford, North Carolina.
She was the Wife of Jacob Francisco/Sisco. Jacob Francisco/Sisco born 1755 and died 1816. He moved from western NC to TN about 1790 and was a Revolutionary War Veteran.
They had the following known children:
She died in 1817 in Bradley, Tennessee.
1790 We have already established Jacob and Rebecca in Rutherford County, North Carolina. Listed on the 1790 census record, Jacob lives next door to John Sr. with his wife, Rebecca, a daughter, and two young sons. The daughter is Hannah, born October 10, 1785, who later married Daniel Lee. The oldest son is probably Jacob, born 1788, who later married Sarah Franks, and the other son is probably John Andrew, born 1789, who later married Phoebe Ann Turner. We will look into why these are probably the sons born in 1788 & 1789 later.
1796 The Great Migration to Warren County, Kentucky took place. Many of the families around Sandy Run community in North Carolina headed west. Names such as Shipman, Gage, Burleson, Kuykendall, Lee, Landers, and several others either moved there in 1796 or were already in the area. Many of them had military land grants. Kentucky had just acquired statehood a few years earlier.
1796 Jacob and Rebecca had another son; probably James who later married Sarah Branham.
1799 We next find Jacob on the 1799 Warren County tax list as having land on the Big Barren River. Neighbors include Isaac Crawford (Rebecca's sister, Phoebe's husband; the widow, Sarah (Shipman) Harrington, another sister to Rebecca; George Salling, who later marries the widow; Robert Gage, husband of another sister, Anna; Moses Shipman, a nephew to Rebecca and important to our story later. There are also several more nephews listed as having land on the Big Barren River.
Bet. 1799 and 1802 Jacob and Rebecca move down into Jackson County Tennessee where they joined the Spring Creek Baptist Church. They have had another son during that time, Thomas Fancher, born in 1800.
Nov 1802 According to the Spring Creek Baptist Church minutes, Jackson Co. TN. in Nov. 1802, Jacob Sisco was counseled by the Church for the sins of drunkenness. (Notice the interplay of Francisco, Sisco, and Scisco in the Church minutes).
Apr 1803 Moses, Rebecca's nephew, married Mary Robinson in Warren County and moved to Spring Creek. Moses and Mary Shipman received into Spring Creek Baptist Church in Jackson Co. Tn. by letter. Moses Shipman appointed to speak to Jacob Francisco about the Sin of Drunkenness. The baby Daniel was born to Rebecca in May. Perhaps Mary (Robinson) Shipman helped Rebecca tend to him as Rebecca would have her hands full with all the other children and a drunk husband.
June 1803 Jacob Sisco's case continued in Church.
16 July 1803 Jacob Francisco Excommunicated by Spring Creek Baptist Church, Jackson Co. TN. for continued drunkenness.
17 Sep 1803 Brothers from Spring Creek Baptist Church, Jackson Co. TN., appointed to speak to Rebecca Scisco about reports and the motions of her mind which she has made known.
Sep 1803-Rebecca Sisco case continued in Church.
Sep 1803 Moses and Mary Shipman dismissed from Spring Creek Baptist Church by letter. Moses and Mary leave to go to South Carolina where Mary was born and probably still has family there.
3 Jan 1804 Rebecca Francisco excluded from meeting of Church for going in evil company after being reproved. (To be continued).
According to the Sisco DNA Project,[2] "A Francisco family descended from Daniel Francisco, born about 1803 in Tennessee, who moved to Illinois at a young age. The Y chromosome of men in this family matches other men with the surname of "Gage", so it is likely their direct male ancestor was a Gage. They have an E1b1b Y chromosome haplotype, described at: www.eupedia.com/europe/Haplogroup_E1b1b_Y-DNA.shtml"
This Francisco/Sisco family descended from John Fransoy/Franse/Francisco, a French protestant (Huguenot) born about 1660 in France, who fled north to the Netherlands to escape religious persecution. His name probably just means "John the Frenchman" Jean le François in French. He was married to a Dutch woman, Elizabeth Geitje, either in the Netherlands or in New Jersey. In the Netherlands and in the Dutch community of Second River, New Jersey, he was known as Johannis Franse, which means "John French" in Dutch. Later the name was written as Francisco or Fran Sisco. He is supposed to have had at least five sons, Henry, Frans, Johannis, Abraham, and Barent. Many of the descendants of Barent in New Jersey shortened the name to "Sisco", whereas the descendants of Henry in New York and points west kept the full name of "Francisco". A southern branch of this family is descended from a John Francisco who moved to North Carolina about 1750. The southern branch changed the name from Francisco to Sisco or Cisco about 1800.[3]
