Biography

Magdeleine Melancon was born 23 Mar 1684 and was baptized the same day at Grand Pre, Acadia. She was the daughter of Pierre Melanson and Marguerite Mius. Her godparents were Etienne Lebel and Magdeleine Mignon who named her Magdeleine.^[1][2]

• Note the discrepancy between the 2 baptism files, I would take the Canada Archives version as the most accurate which is also a certified true copy.

• According to genealogists Stephen A. White^[3] and Karen Theriot Reader^[4], the date of birth is 13 March 1684, and baptism 25 June 1684.

In 1686, at Baye des Mines, Magdeleine, aged 2, was living with her parents, Pierre MELANCON [sic], dit La Verdure [sic], aged 54, and Marie MIUS DAUTREMON [sic], aged 36, and her eight siblings: Philippes [sic], aged 20, Cecile, aged 18, Pierre, aged 16, Marie, aged 13, Marguerite, aged 10, Isabelle [sic], aged 7, Jean, aged 5, and a child 1 day old. They owned 12 guns and were living on 50 arpents of cultivable land with 31 cattle, 8 sheep, and 27 hogs.^[5]

On 29 Nov 1702, at age 18, she marriedLouis Simon (Le Poupet) Le Poupet de Saint-Aubin de La Boularderie (27) (born about 1674 in France), the king's ensign, son of Antoine Le Poupet de St. Aubin and Jaqueline Arnoulet.^[6][7]
