Lewis Green, styled "Lewis Green II" by Judy Parsons Smith,[1] was born about 1645/1650 in Charles City county, Virginia.[2] He is the son of Lewis Green. In 1702, land records show that Lewis (the son) had begun accumulating land. Between 1705 and 1723, he was issued five land grants in Prince George and Surry counties, Virginia.[3]
"Lewis Green ... owned property in Surry County as well as Prince George County.
"There were 2 mills owned by the Green family, the first was on Easterly Run a tributary of Bailey’s Creek; the second was located at Stoney Point in Jones Hole.
"'Beginning in 1704, Lewis Sr. acquired well over 2000 acres of land in various parts of Surry and Prince George Counties, much of it new land along the Nottoway River.'[35]"[4]
Wives
Lewis married several times: (1) "possibly a Miss Parham or Miss Grigg"; m (2) Susannah Grigg, b. 1668, "Baly’s Creek, Westopher Parish," Charles City county, the "daughter of William & Miss (Burwell) Grigg". He and his first wife had children, "the total that are attributed to each wife is unknown however Frances is known to be the daughter of Lewis & Susannah Green."[3]
Children
note: Order of children is based on birth years; order in #Smith was different (but had the birth years given below); see #Smith, Windows Into Our Past, p 22 for additional dates and source citations.
Some trees show this Lewis Green as son of Robert Dunn Green and his wife Elizabeth Duff.
See this Rootsweb entry by Delores Willey, which includes information from Smith's aunt Ardath Jo Green.
I am descended from Benjamin Rush, whose widowed mother Elizabeth married William Duff, who had a nephew named Robert Green (born about 1695 or 1700) who immigrated to Virginia about 1710/1715.
See Milams in Virginia pages [6] for information about William Duff and his nephew Robert Green (son of William's sister Eleanor).
"Authors place the arrival of Duff and Green in Westmoreland County from 1710 to 1715. Robert Green, said to be age 15 upon his arrival in the Colony of Virginia, was the son of Duff’s sister, Eleanore Duff, and William Green. Duff in his Will of 1741 refers to a cousin, John Duff of the Kingdom of Ireland, so they are believed to be Scotch-Irish - Duff or MacDuff and Green being common Scottish names. [58] My research found a 27 February 1705/1706 Westmoreland County Court record for the "importation" of William Duff. [61] Two years later in February 1707/1708 Duff is a witness for a land purchase by Isaac Arnold. [62] By May 1712, Duff was acquiring land. His first purchase was 248 acres in Washington Parish on the south side of Rosier’s (Attopin) Creek Dam for 7000 pounds of tobacco."
See also the WikiTree profiles for Eleanor Dunn and William Green, b 1675 (father of Robert Green, according to WikiTree). And the profile for William Duff m Elizabeth Green, which says he was son of William Sr. & that his wife's nephew, Robert Green, came with him to Virginia in 1712.
Eleanor McDuff, sister of William Duff, the Quaker & mother of Robert Green, married William Green. If William Duff's son William Jr. married a sister of William Green, then the same Robert Green would be the nephew of both William Duff Sr. (son of his sister Eleanor) and the newphew of William Duff Jr.'s wife Elizabeth (Green), the son of her brother William Green.
I do not believe that Robert Green & his family are related to Lewis & his family. ~Liz, Septmeber 6, 2015

update - PPP in place and merge completed, retaining "Green" spelling
Hi! This profile needs to be PPP - a merge with a profile that ends in "e" was just proposed (Greene-11189) and nothing I've found supports that spelling over the spelling without a trailing e (Green).
I've added the project account and project box. I should have waited to get the PPP before appovign the merge, but I approved it before I realized the different spellings.
Hi! Since the image displaying as a thumbnail image for his profile in the upper left of the profile page is an image of a typewritten page from a book, I'd like to remove it as the primary image. The image will still be attached to the profile, showing under Images, it just won't be displayed as a thumbnail of "his" image.
It's a quirk of mine to have the primary images be more suitable to display in family trees - ideally, a photograph or portrait of the person. Since we don't have such an image for him, I'd prefer to go back to the default image (a generic silhouette of a man), if no objections.
I have changed his first name to Lewis. There is no evidence for that Lewis I had a son John. I have also added a son Lewis III to this Lewis. I am basically following the thoroughly-researched and well-documented book A Genealogy of Lewis Green & Associated Families" by Judy Parsons Smith, based largely on the research of her great aunt, Adnath Jo Green. I have also added a son Lewis Green IV to Lewis Green III. Now Wikitree follows that book except where there are known issues.
span of dates for children, with Frances b c1672 belonging to wife (2) seems to argue for a 3rd wife. (the "married several times" in the text was a slip on my part, but perhaps correct after all)

At this point this is a collateral line for me. I am a direct descendant of Lucy Mangum Green's parents.
Still looking for direct evidence regarding Elizabeth Green Foley and her possible link to Lewis Bear Green. Then there is Elizabeth Lauderdale.
Cheers.
