Biography

Elizabeth Martha Barnhart was born in Tennessee on September 25, 1849, she was the daughter of Jane W. Wilson and Henry B. Barnhart.

1850 Census - Bradley County, Tennessee Elizabeth Barnhart is shown at age 1, in the 1850 Census for Bradley County, Tennessee, living in the household of her father Henry Barnhart age 47 and her mother Jane Barnhart age 40, with her siblings, Barbara Barnhart age 18, Martha Barnhart age 15, Madison Barnhart age 11, and Delila Barnhart age 3.^[1][2]

1860 Census - Boon Township, Maries County, Missouri Elizabeth Barnhart is shown at age 10, in the census for Boon Township, Maries County, Missouri, living in the household of her father Henry Barnhart age 52 and her mother Jane W. Barnhart age 48, with siblings, Medina Barnhart age 18, Tennessee Barnhart age 7, George Barnhart age 5, and Robert Barnhart age 2.^[3][4]

Elizabeth married Marvel Orr in Maries County, Missouri on August 11, 1864.

1870 Census - Swan Township, Taney County, Missouri Elizabeth Barnhart Orr is shown at the age 23, in the 1870 census for Swan Township, Taney County, Missouri, living in the household of her husband Marvel Orr age 27, with their three children, Matilda J. Orr age 5, Mary T. Orr age 3, and George H. Orr who was just at the age of 1.^[5]

1880 Census - Boon Township, Maries County, Missouri Elizabeth Barnhart Orr is shown at age 32, in the 1880 Census for Boon Township, Maries County, Missouri, living in the household of her husband Marvel Orr age 36, with children, Matilda Orr age 15, Mary T. Orr age 13, George H. Orr age 11, Martha E. Orr age 9, James H. Orr age 7, Marilda A. Orr age 4, John W. Orr age 2, and Cora I. Orr who was just 2 months old.^[6]

Also shown on the same census for Boon Township, Maries County, Missouri, is the household of Elizabeth's father, a farmer, Henry Barnhart age 73 and her mother Jane Barnhart age 67. The census shows, living in the household of Henry Barnhart, was Charles May, a 24 year old farm-hand from Pennsylvania.^[7]

1900 Census - Boon Township, Maries County, Missouri Elizabeth Orr is shown at age 51, in the 1900 census for Boon Township, Maries County, Missouri, living in the household of her husband Marvel Orr age 60, with their children, John Orr age 22, Robert I. Orr age 16, Arnold A. Orr age 14, Mirtie A. Orr age 12, and Marvel E. Orr age 8. The census shows that Elizabeth was the mother of 14 children.^[8]

Elizabeth Martha Orr died in Maries County, Missouri on February 22, 1906, she was buried in Stokes Cemetery in Van Cleve, Missouri.^[9]
