Nehemiah Estabrook Sr. served with Middlesex County Militia, Massachusetts Militia during the American Revolution.
Nehemiah Estabrook, son of John and Prudence (Harrington) Estabrook was born at Lexington, Massachusetts on March 2, 1737. [1][2][3]
His father John died intestate on June 19, 1742. [1] On October 6, 1750, Nehemiah and Elizabeth Estabrook, children on John Estabrook, deceased, chose Richard Winship as their guardian. On February 11, 1750/1, Abigail Estabrook also chose her brother Richard Winship as her guardian. [4]
On May 5, 1751, Richard Winship and Benjamin Munroe posted surety, and Winship guaranteed that upon reaching majority, he would pay the current minor children of John Estabrook, for whom he was guardian, their shares from the proceeds of the sale of real estate of their late father. [4]
Nehemiah married March 1, 1759, Elizabeth, daughter of Samuel and Hannah (Loring) Winship, who was born at Lexington on May 23, 1740. [1][3] In her father's will dated 1784, she is called Elizabeth Estabrook. [5]
He left Lexington about 1777, moved to Lunenburg, Massachusetts, and afterwards went to West Cambridge, (now Arlington). [3]
After his father's death, his mother married Benjamin Munroe. She wrote her will on January 22, 1770, and it was proved on September 8, 1778, naming son Nehemiah among her bequests and naming him executor of her estate. [6]
Nehemiah's wife Elizabeth died in Arlington, Massachusetts on May 3, 1809, aged sixty-nine years. [7]
He died in Hopkinton, New Hamphsire on October 16, 1812, while on a visit to his children. He is buried in Old Hopkinton Cemetery, Hopkinton, New Hampshire. [8]
Military
He was a soldier in the French war in 1755, and hence was qualified to aid in the Revolutionary struggle. [2][3]
Estaerooke, Nehemiah: Private in a detachment from Lexington militia company under command of John Bridge; service from May 11 to May 15, 1775; 5 days at Cambridge by order of Committee of Safety. [9]
Estererook, Nehemiah: Private, Captain Samuel Farrar's company, Colonel Reed's regiment. Engaged September 29, 1777; discharged October 24, 1777, service 26 days. Company drafted from Colonel Kleazer Brooks's regiment to reinforce Northern army under General Gates. [9][10]
