Biography

James Wright was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts, on October 23, 1703, the son and eldest child of James Wright and Elizabeth Patten. He was baptized in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on October 24, 1703.[1][2][3]

James, then "of Rutland," Massachusetts, married Patience Martyn of Marlborough, Massachusetts, in Marlborough on January 31, 1732-3.[4][5]

According to his FindAGrave Memorial, Deacon James Wright died in Greenwich, Massachusetts, on July 7, 1754, "in the 51st year of his age" (gravestone). He was originally buried at Greenwich Center Cemetery, but his remains were removed July 14, 1938, to Quabbin Park Cemetery in Ware, Massachusetts.

Research Notes

  • Soldier?
    • Text from Sewall's History of Woburn would seem to suggest that James Wright was a soldier at Lake George (New York) on September 25, 1758, but it is not possible to determine from the text that it refers to the same James Wright.[6]
    • William Cutter in Wright Family of Woburn, Mass. wrote:" James Wright, aged 20, impressed from Woburn in 1759." Here, the cited age and year do not match with a James Wright born in 1703, and neither of these facts match with the FindAGrave Memorial for Deacon James Wright, who died in Greenwich, Massachusetts, in 1754, "in the 51st year of his age."[1]
