Biography
- Dirck was born about 1650 (calculated from his age upon sailing from Amsterdam) in Vianen, Netherlands. He sailed from Amsterdam on March 15, 1663, on De Arent with his father, Evert, brother, Jan, aunt, Annetje and her daughter. They arrived in New Amsterdam June 2, 1663[1].
- There are almost no details about Dirck's life. No source has been cited that definitively connects him to the Terwilliger family. Published genealogies also differ as to whether Johannes is the son of Dirck or a grandson.[2][3]
- Consider Dirck a placeholder for the father of Johannes, as there appears to be no evidence as to who Johannes's father is, only that he is not one of Dirck's brother's children.
