In the 1900 Census, the Edelblute family has moved from Ebensburg to 526 Talbot Avenue in Braddock Ward 2, Allegheny, PA. Erma is age 17, and her brother,Earl George, is 16. Also living with them is John Edulblute, William's brother. [3] They lived near Erma's mother's family there because Josephine "Gussie" Fagan and her husband Thomas Lynch lived next door at 534 Talbot. Gussie is Clara's sister. Also living in Braddock was Erma's uncle Frank H. Fagan and his wife and family. They lived on Corey Avenue in Ward 3. [4]
On 14 Sep 1903, at the age of 20, Erma married Edwin Linsenmayer in Mahoning County, Ohio. [5] They had two children: Ollen was born in 1904 and Cletus Edwin was born in 1905. [6]
On 25 Nov 1905 William died. He is buried in Braddock, Allegheny, PA. [7]
In 1908, Erma married John T. Braithwaite in Braddock, Pennsylvania. John worked as a butcher in Braddock. Erma, John, and her two children, Ollen and Cletus lived next door to her parents in Braddock. [8]
In 1920, we find that Erma's parents, William and Clara Edelblute, have moved to Longmont Ward 2, Boulder, Colorado and are living on Pratt Street. Also living with them are two grandchildren: Ollen Linsenmayer, age 14 and Cletus Linsenmayer, age 13. These would be children of Erma and her first husband Edwin. Where is Erma and John? I have been unable to find any reference to her in the 1920, 30 or 40 Censuses.
In the attached letter from Erma to Roy C. Fagan, her first cousin, we learn a lot of information, but also it brings up more questions. On page one she mentions that her "second man" died in 1927. This would be John T. Braithwaite. I was able to locate this information by checking on the 1910 Census around her parents. They were the listing above Erma's parents. On page three she mentions that "we" don't like it out here, which most likely is Modesto, California. She says it is hard to find work in the winter, but summers have fruit. I am guessing that her husband is a fruit picker. On page 5 she mentions visiting her husband's family for Thanksgiving, so she is married. On page 7 she talks about packing Joe's lunch so he can go to work, so her husband's name is most likely Joseph. On the envelope it looks like Mrs. Erma Tanner. [9]
A California Death record for Erma Tanner puts her death at 25 Apr 1962. [10]
