Gumear history of Deerpark "FIRST SETTLERS. In the year 1690, as near as can be determined, Jacob Cuddeback, Thomas Swartwout, Anthony Swartwout, Bernardus Swartwout, Peter Gumaer, John Tyse and David Jamison, settled in the present town of Deerpark, in the County of Orange and State of New York, on and near a handsome knoll or hill contiguous to a spring brook and a spring of living water, in the central part of the Peenpack flats. ... Soon there were only 5 of these men as Tyse and Jamison died or left and no records have been found of them being in the area after this. Possibly they sold their shares to some of the other 5 or to others. ... Antony Swartwout (bap 1664 d. 1700) supposed to have died on the patent lands in 1700. In 1701 his widow marrried Harmanus Van Inwegen. ... There is a story that the Swartwouts and Gumear and Cuddeback had lost so many other (Peenpeck/Deerpark) settlers to raids by the Jerseymen and other reasons that they asked HARMANUS VAN INWEGAN, a large, powerful and fearless man to come and live in their settlement to help them fend off their enemies and gave him a parcel of land. Then Antony Swartwout (bap 1664 d. 1700) died and Harmanus Van Inwegen marries his widow, most likely then occupying the holdings of Antony Swartwout (bap 1664 d. 1700) as well as his own lot that he was given? Antoni, bap. 1699, (son of Antony Swartwout (bap 1664 d. 1700)) who would sire the lines of Aaron the fifer, Moses, Ralph and Anthony. Sr. was just an infant. Harmanus would have been the step-father and the lands would normally be held until the sons came of majority. I would imagine that the children of Antony Swartwout (bap 1664 d. 1700) stayed with their mother and step father, unless they or maybe some went to live with their grandfather or other relatives at Hurley until his death, I think in 1715? (others suspect Hermanus' death came later, perhaps as late as 1760)

Jannetje Coobes m. 2nd Harmanus Berentsen Van Inwegen 19 JAN 1701 at Kingston, Ulster CO, NY. He must have then owned Antoni Swartwout's land at Maghaghkemeck, but some went to Antoni's sons as they came of age. 1701 19 Jan; Heromandus Berenstsen, born Nimwegen, lived Kingston; Jannetje Coobes, widow of Antonie Swartwout, born Renselaarswyck (later Albany) (DRC Kingston) Baptism records at D Ref Church at Kingston: At least 2 children born to Harmanus Van Inwegen and Jannetje (Coobes) Swartwout , widow of Antony Swartwout (bap 1664 d. 1700), Gerardus and Jenneke. 1702 May 10; Gerardus van Nimweeg; son of Hermanus Barentse van Nimweeg and Jannetje Jacobus; witnesses: Thomas Noxon, Geertruy Noxons 1706 Jun 09; Jenneke Van Inwegen: daughter of Herman Barentse and Jannetie Jacobse; witnesses: Willem Oorstrande, Marytie Hagers Gumear or Cuddebcak note that a Cornelius Van Inwegen later lived on the property that was originally Antony Swartwout's (bap 1664 d. 1700), a few rods northeast of Cuddeback's place of residence. Harmanus Berentsen Van VanInwegen was a seafaring man in his youth and had seen much of the world. Was he married prior? There are other Van Inwegens at the patent which could have been his children and possibly theirs or relatives of his. There are several stories of Harmanus Van Inwegen and that he lived to an old age. He even was at the battle with the Jerseymen with Major Jacobus Swartwout. 1715 Militia Ulster CO, NY (The patent settlement was part of Ulster CO then and these men all listed together.) Van Inwegen-17 and Van Imwegen-1 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest paternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge. No tree conflicts. Add aka Van Inwegen. Thanks!
