Biography

Lydia (Lawson) Newpott was born in Appalachia, in Tennessee.

Lydia was born on August 26, 1894 at Cordell in Scott County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Michael Lawson and Rebecca ( York ) Lawson . She married Ranzie Newport around 1920 in Scott County. She passed away from a cerebral hemorrhage due to hypertension and cardiacal vascular disease at General Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee on February 25,1952.

Obituary,

Mrs. Lydia Newport, wife of Ranzie Newport, died in General Hospital in Knoxville Feb. 25 following a long illness. She was the daughter of Mike Lawson, a good woman, member of the Baptist church, and had a host of friends. She was 57 years of age. Survivors include her husband, Ranzie Newport; seven daughters, Rebecca, Naomi, Gladys, of Robbins, Mrs. Kermit Robbins, Mrs. Arvin Hutson, Mrs. Orvil Byrd of Robbins and Mrs. Lee Nichols of Cincinnati, O.; six brothers, J. J. Lawson, Mitchell Lawson, Robert Lawson, all of Norma, Frank Lawson, Jesse Lawson of Beech Fork; three sisters, Mrs. Nancy Barnes, Helenwood, Pernie Lawson and Evelyn Long of Cincinnati, O., and a large number of relatives. Funeral was at Mount Pleasant church Feb. 27 with Rev. L. M. Jeffers officiating. Interment in the Newport cemetery with West Funeral Home in charge. (Source: The Scott County News, 29 Feb 1952, p8)
