Biography

Neeltje was baptized at the Reformed Dutch Church of New Amsterdam on 25 September 1639, recorded as the child of Jacob Wolpherttz. Hers is the first baptism recorded in the register of the New Amsterdam church. Witnesses to her baptism are Gerret Wolphertszen, David Provost, Philip Gerritszen, Neeltje Wolpherts, and Anneken Jans. ^[1]

Neeltje Couwenhoven of Amsterdam in New Netherland married Cornelis Pluvier in the New Amsterdam Church in 1662; their intentions of marriage were recorded there on 6 January 1662. Cornelis was the widower of Geertie Andries, and it was Neeltje's first marriage.^[2]
