the FamilySearch link in sources (John Dalrymple on FamilySearch.org, # KGVY-CKL) goes to a deleted profile for John James Dalrymple (1735–28 February 1798), with the explanation: "This record contains little information: KGVY-CKL. There is enough evidence to believe it is the same person as LKTC-JWX. I merged John's daughter Jean Janet and his wife Mary Margaret Gordon. It is clearly a duplicate record. I am not sure why there is a discrepancy on the death date, however it is clearly a duplicate record."
The surviving record is for John Dalrymple (1735–1805) FamilySearch Person: LKTC-JWX (see the "Discovery" page without having to log in - FamilySearch Person Discovery: LKTC-JWX) and has sources supporting the John who died in 1798. On the Collaborate page is found the following comment from 2023:
This entry looks like two different men, one in SC & one in NC, have been erroneously conflated into a single person. All the different info does not look like it refers to the same person.
The surviving PID has the following "Life Story" on the details page, which is for the John who married Margaret:
Arrived in North Carolina at age 49 with wife Margaret (39), Archibald (15), John (17), Mary (19), James (11), Janet (7), William (2), Jean (5) and Ann (9)
John and his family set out from Glasgow, Scotland in 1775 aboard the "Jackie." They landed in Wilmington, NC, 31 May 1775. The reason John gave in the Emigrant Record for the move was "high rents." The family traveled up the Cape Fear River and settled on Gaster's Creek in Moore County, North Carolina. Eventually John would own1200 acres of land (formerly Moore, now Lee County).
John served as a courier during the Revolutionary War, and in 1801 was serving in the NC House of Commons.
