Michael's birth place is listed as Ireland in many records for his children, the discussion that he was actually born in Virginia is not accurate. Also, his marriage record shows a marriage in Ireland, and his wife's death record indicates she was born in Ireland.
[1][2][3][4][5][6]
He married on 19 Jan 1823 in Bruff, Limerick, Ireland Ellen Wilmouth, born abt 1797 in Ireland[7]
In 1875, when his wife, Ellen passed, her death record indicates that she was a widow.[8][9]
Children
Children of Michael FITZGERALD and Ellen WILMOUTH were as follows:
Thomas FITZGERALD of County Limerick, Ireland.
Hanora FITZGERALD, christened 19 Nov 1825 in Bruff, Limerick, Ireland.
Bridget FITZGERALD, christened 10 Mar 1828 in Bruff, Limerick, Ireland.
Mary FITZGERALD, christened 17 Nov 1830 in Bruff, Limerick, Ireland.
Ellen FITZGERALD, christened 15 Dec 1831 in Bruff, Limerick, Ireland.
Mary3 FITZGERALD, christened 11 Sep 1834 in Bruff, Limerick, Ireland.
(NOTE: This 2nd born Mary appears to be the daughter of Michael's brother, Edmund Fitzgerald)-Jim Miller
James FITZGERALD, christened 2 Nov 1837 in Bruff, Limerick, Ireland.
Michael FITZGERALD, christened 8 Sep 1841 in Bruff, Limerick, Ireland.
His parents may have been James and Hannah Fitzgerald[10][11]
In 1991 after an exhaustive search of records of the civil parish of Bruff in the barony of Coshma, Co. Limerick, Edmund has been proven incorrect. Catholic parish registers date from 1781, with an unfortunate gap between 1790 and 1807. These and most other early record sources in the county have been centralized and indexed by the Limerick Regional Archives, The Granary, Michael Street, Limerick, who provide an excellent research service to anyone with Limerick ancestry. It has been determined that Michael and Edmund were brothers. In 1833 Michael and Edmund Fitzgerald were the only householders by that name in Bruff parish; their father James Fitzgerald was not found, though he may have been the James Fitzgerald who held four acres in the adjacent parish and townland of Knockaney. Further research on the father of these two men is needed. [12]

The book, The Jesus Presidents has Michael Fitzgerald, b 1797 with his father being Edmund/Edward b 1753 in Va. And his father as William Fitzgerald b. 1734 who married Elizabeth Irby b. 1738.
Then up to Edmund Irby b. 1712 to his wife Ann Bland b 1710 in Va. To her parents Richard Bland and Elizabeth Randolph. Back up to Edward III, to Malcolm Canmore and from him back to Jesus.
Yes I see the Virginia / Ireland location discrepancy. More research needed to see if there were two different Michael Fitzgerald's who got their info mixed together.
I question a portion of the statement below that is within the link in the upper right hand side of this WikiTree profile (How can Michael Fitzgerald b1792 Ire. be the son of Wm in VA who already has a son Michael?). I agree that it is unlikely that these two Michael Fitzgerald's are the same person; however William Fitzgerald I of Virginia (my great...great grandfather) was clearly born in Dublin, Ireland (NOT England) at Leinster House. He also named his plantation in Virginia, "Leinster". Also DNA segments on my father's side are common Dublin, Ireland likely due to my father's descent from William Fitzgerald I. After thousands of hours of research, no other of my father's ancestors is from the Dublin, Ireland area. Jim Miller
"Because a name is shared in two generations is not enough evidence to connect the two trees, especially since William Fitgerald 1750-1818 and his son Micheal were born in Virginia. This family was originally from England, not Ireland."
From the profile: "So Michael Fitzgerald's parents (Edmund & his wife) had to have been in Ireland when Michael was born OR this Michael Fitzgerald is not the Michael Fitzgerald connected to Rose (Fitzgerald) Kennedy. E.G. Virginia Fitzgerald's are NOT connected to the Boston Fitzgerald's."
In looking at this simply verifying US Presidents project lineage, I would suggest a complete disconnect from the parents for this very reason and then notate they were detached as a Disputed Parentage section.
