Timothy Pickering Stone was born in 1915, the youngest son of James Savage Stone and Selma (Bowditch) Stone. He attended Harvard College and subsequently earned his medical degree at Tufts University; served in World War II, attaining the rank of major and earning a Bronze Star; and became a well-known and respected family physician in Southborough, Massachusetts, where he was the school doctor for two local private schools – Fay and St. Marks.
He and his wife, born Virginia Amesbury and known as Gig, were married in 1951 and were a summer fixture of Putnam Camp in the Adirondacks – originally a private family camp founded by Tim's grandfather, Harvard Medical School professor and dean Henry Pickering Bowditch.
"Doc Stone" lived to the age of 101, passing away in 2016.
