Notes
27 September 2021: I'm adding basic information on the siblings of people in my direct line, stats and sources without biographies. I'll happily turn those profiles over to people researching those lines, and I want to give them a blank canvas. Please contact me if you come up on a relative's profile you'd like to adopt.
19 June 2021: I've learned a lot about formatting, mainly by stalking distant relatives' Wiki pages. (Hello and thank you, cousins.) I'll be going back to add clickable links to sources as time allows.
(I'm experimenting with inline reference in my bios as well, but they don't produce the classic citations I prefer.)

Biography
I was born in 1964 and was raised on a farm in Texas. I was introduced in genealogy in high school -- in case you couldn't guess, high school was a long time ago.
I've spent the last year or so moving all that research into an electronic format that I can then share online. I want the work to live on and grow even if I lose interest or am abducted by aliens at some point.
I live in Oklahoma now with my husband and child, about an hour north of where some of my ancestors lived a century ago before they moved on to Texas. I don't know what that proves, if anything, but it amuses me.

To get the best results, begin adding sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to ancestors already in WikiTree. If you have exhausted what you know on one line, it can sometimes help to add what you know on another line. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches that relate to the particular branches you are researching.
One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that others found very helpful. I hope that you will too.
I understand your privacy concerns, you can set your privacy level to show only the information you are happy for other people to see, the highest setting for an active WikiTree-er is the red setting, it shows the decade you were born. Due to new privacy laws that came out in May 2018.

Any profiles you create for people who are still living and are not active on WT will have their privacy level automatically set to "unlisted" status, so the only people who will be able to see their information will be you and anyone you add to a trusted list for that profile. Each profile has their own trusted list.

Thanks for the encouragement and the tips. I'm going to fine-tune the profiles added and make sure they conform to standards before adding any one else, so I welcome all feedback. I know I need to fix links in the references so they direct straight to the source. I'll also make sure the privacy settings are set correctly.
