Biography

A little about myself - - - I have been working in my family's genealogy for at least the last 20 years, following the information compiled by my Mother, my Father, both of my grandmothers and my great grandmother (who wrote her memoirs in the 1930's covering her childhood years in the 1800's). Finding and translating information about my Cuban Grandfather and his ancestors has been difficult. Hopefully I will be able to connect with fellow genealogists. I am a member of the DAR and helped several prospective members join by completing their research. After much work, I completed research on admitting my husband to SAR. I am looking forward to volunteering to help others in their quest for information about their ancestors. I live in Spring, Texas and have access to the Clayton Genealogical Library in downtown Houston. Should anyone need access to a book they have I can help.

Hi Andrea

As you have been a member of WikiTree for a few weeks now I thought I would check in to see how you are getting on with the site.

Has the New Member How-To been helpful or left you with any questions?

Thanks for asking.

I have been reading many of the WikiTree articles, videos and and tips. Hopefully I will be able to supply valid and helpful information. I am working slowly. Currently I am cleaning up my Family Tree Maker files, making sure everything is correctly documented and sources are accurate before sending a GEDOM for 4 generations at a time.

Hi Andrea,

A small GEDCOM is the best way to start, once you have done that and understand the process you can then think of doing a bigger one, It is good to get everything ready and prepared, that way then there will be less editing to do, I am here to help, whenever you need it, and the link Debi sent is a very good one

Take care Karen

One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that I found very helpful. I hope that you will too.

That was very, very helpful. I can see I have downloaded a very large GEDCOM file that will be hard to manage properly (225 people) I am going to print out the GEDCOMpare process so that I do not miss a step. Thank you fir your suggestion.

Andrea, that's a really small file compared to some that we see. You can stop working on that file and create a new, smaller one if you would prefer. I usually work with just one ancestors line at a time as it keeps the file smaller.

Happy tree climbing

Thank you for your suggestion. I have already seen 4 u-tube videos that were very well done on beginning to use and contribute to WikiTree.
