Hi Georg,

My grand father Francis Nordmeyer also does genealogy and may be able to provide some additional details on the Nordmeyer line, or else may be interested in learning as well. Let me know if you’d like contact details.

Hi Dietrich,

Sorry to be a bit late in replying as I am frequenting this site not too often. As you are certainly aware your surname is quite common, at least in German speaking Europe. But we might well find out common roots anyway to my mother's ancestors. So I would be glad to contact your grand father. Thanks for connecting us, I am curious to see where we will be ending up.. Ginny ~ WikiTree Messenger

Hi Ginny,

thanks for reaching out for me, much appreciated! I filled already quite a bit of my family data in this exiting data bank. In fact I ran into a question with regard to a particular source of mine (old German), but I did not manage to post this along with a picture of my source. It seems Wikitree only accepts website links and no uploads? Anyway there are still a number of historic family members which I am planning to enter here. I am looking forward to see with whom on earth I am connected with... Georg

Hi Georg,

Thanks for all your work on WikiTree. I noticed that you have begun adding profiles for the pre-1700 ancestors you have found in your search. Congratulations on getting back that far!

Since you are now back in the time period where many people can be descended from those ancestors, we need more details in your source area. As collaborative genealogists, we need to tell each other our sources so that we can work together to assess the relative reliability of the source and the evidence it contains.

The Sources - Examples section more fully explains what information needs to be included in source citations for pre-1700 profiles.

We're looking for reliable sources to add to the various lists. Would your source be a good addition?

Thanks,

Debi

Hi Debi,

to start with, I appreciate that you contacted me to check the reliability of the data I am inserting. I fully support that we all should aim at the highest degree of accuracy to make this genealogy project a success.

And you are right, my wiki genealogy work led me back to pre-1700 right away. I am glad to dispose of very reliable sources of information that have been handed down to me. As mentioned in the "German Roots Project Reliable Sources", most of the information about historic data in Germany has been preserved in parish records. Since there are a number of priests amongst my ancestors they collected and kept this family information well in order and cultivated a coherent family tree, all based on their own experience or the data of church books. If someone would like to see some of my sources I am happy to share them - just be aware that they are mostly written in Sütterlin (ancient German script), even not many Germans are able to read this, I learned it earlier from an uncle :)

Besides I was happy to agree to my first wiki merger of a remote relative connection with all the double data in line, which I regard to be a first confirmation of the expected exactitude of my sources. Nevertheless when proceeding with my work I will keep challenging myself and my data to see if they make sense at all time. I will clearly not post any doubtful item.

Thanks again and let me know if there is anything I can do.

Hi Debi,

I took your advice and applied for participation in the project Germany. This is certainly a good place to verify the quality of my family sources which I am on my way to do now. In the real world it is in fact not easy to find a sparring partner who can read the ancient German script. Thanks and again! Georg

Hi Georg,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

Hi Butch,

Thanks for your advice. I am quite confident that my family sources have been composed meeting high standards. But I agree collaboration and review by other members is a good idea. Therefore I have applied to participate in the project Germany to find members to team up with. Not many people can read the ancient German script... Whenever I should run into trouble in the Pre-1700 area I would be glad to come back to you. Georg
