Biography

Personal notes from Ian Loudon - December 2020

Son of Donald Loudon and Ida Winifred (Henderson) Loudon Born 7th November 1958 in parents' farm - Ballintean in Glen Feshie, Inverness-shire. Deep snow that day so the midwife and the GP could not make it to the farm and Dad delivered me himself. Farming was not economically viable in the late 1950s so my parents sold the farm and Dad started working for the government, organising farmer cooperatives - this involved a lot of travelling so the family moved first to the Orkney Islands (1960-1964) and then to Blairgowrie in Perthshire where Mum took up teaching again and the kids grew up (1964-1975). The family moved again in 1975 to Duns in the Scottish Borders but I stayed on in Blairgowrie to finish school. In 1976 I started a four year degree course at the University of Edinburgh studying Physics and on leaving University I took up a job as a Rehabilitation Engineer which looked like a good way to spend a year or two while I worked out what I wanted to do as a career. 40 years later and I am still doing that job so I guess that I answered that question.

Married Bríd Ferguson in 1992 but that did not really work out and we divorced amicably a few years later.

Married Jodi Czarney in 2004 and we are still happily together. Two daughters (I don't like the step-child distinction so future researchers are just going to have to deal with that!) Anna and Mary.

I grew up listening to family reminiscences about ancestors and I had a vague idea about who all of these mythical figures were without having any strong picture of how the family tree was put together. My grandfather Bob Loudon (1896-1989) did a lot of work on the family history (Notes on our Forebears and the Loudon, Nisbet and Howie family trees) but sadly I did not become interested in this work until after he was gone. I have picked up on and extended Grandad's work and added a lot of the work of other relatives - my Dad and cousin Andrew Henderson in particular. Now trying to add it all to WikiTree and tie it in to the work of all of the other cousins out there in genealogy world!
