Ray Allen is an American former professional basketball player. He played 18 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a player in 2018. [1]
He was born on 20 July 1975 at Castle Air Force Base near Merced, California. He is the son of Flora Day and Walter Ray Allen, Sr. who both played semi-professional basketball.[2] His father was a master sergeant and mechanic in the U.S. Air Force and moved his family from base to base including in bases in England, Germany, Oklahoma, and Edwards Air Force Base in California.
He attended Hillcrest High school in Dalzell, South Carolina, and the University of Connecticut (1993-1996).
He was a 1996 NBA draft / Round#1 / Pick#5th overall / position: shooting guard.
(Walter) Ray Allen, Jr. married on 16 August 2008 to Shannon Walker Williams (actress & former lead singer in "Shades"). She is a first cousin of the twins on TLC's reality television show, "Darcey & Stacey". [3]
President Obama appointed him to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council.
