PARENTS: It is impossible for Joseph Milam and Martha Gardner to be the parents of Thomas Milam since Thomas was born several years before they were married in Lancaster County, Virginia, as was pointed out by Robert Wilbanks in the early 1990s. You may read my webpage for full details:
Robert Wilbanks IV and I recently agreed to place this request on our websites:
Please help to discontinue the propagation and perpetuation of outdated conclusions, false research, and mis-information on Milam family history.
Based upon court records, etc. Robert and I also agree that Thomas Milam (1716 - 1775) married Mary Rush - not a Mary Rush Adams - and are discontinuing the use of the latter name. In addition, Robert has a webpage on Major Changes in Virginia Milam's history which you should read by clicking on this link:
Please consider updating your family histories for your descendants and encourage others to do so.
In other news, this Spring / Summer I added new chapters on Benjamin Milam, John Milam, Moses Milam and Zachariah Milam including some original research which I found over the past few years and images of many documents.
Thanks for the consideration and best wishes,,,,
William Milam

DNA Information
The MILAM Y-DNA Project is organized for all who wish to work together to find their common heritage through Y-DNA testing and by sharing information. Currently we have 81 members of whom 26 are from Great Britain.
Most MILAMs in America are descendants of John Milam Sr (ca 1718 - 1789) and Thomas Milam (ca 1716-1775) who lived in the Piedmont region of the Colony and Dominion of Virginia in the mid 1700s. By 2021 fifteen Americans from our Surname Project have taken the FTDNA BIG Y DNA sequencing analysis. This analysis looks at more than ten million nucleotide base pairs on the Y-chromosome for SNPs or variants.

The Research Notes in this Profile point out that it is impossible for Joseph Milam and Martha Gardner to be the parents of Thomas Milam. Yet, both parents are linked to this profile. If they are not the parents, ought they not to be unlinked? Better to have no parents than the wrong parents linked?
Kenneth - you can see the pending merges you have to approve by going to the FIND menu on the upper right of any page and then selecting PENDING MERGES. There are a total of 6 Milams I have flagged.
I'm not the most knowledgeable of WikiTreers, but when I'm creating a new profile person I like to sort the suggested matches that pop-up by birth date or even death date too to filter out all the multitudes of names listed. Also, I try to only enter Name and ONE date (Birth or Death) because as you know the farther back in time it gets the dates are a little more dicey on what people have. I also will often look up parents or spouses to make sure I don't find the person I'm creating already entered. That's kind of a double-check I do.
Hi Kenneth. Did you see the merge requests I’ve been marking on some of the Milam ancestor profiles you’ve created? I sent a few through. This is a big one because so many descendants share Thomas Milam. I also sent you a private message about checking your profiles for possible duplicates.
