Hi, I noticed you're a manager of a Smittle profile. I added his father and grandfather, etc. Are you related to him? If yes, we're probably distant cousins. My grandma was a Smittle, so I've been working on peicing together the family tree and discovering its origins. Still a long way to go. Anyways, feel free to take a look at them anytime. I even found a few photos on FamilySearch. Take care!
So glad to hear from you. It is always nice to hear from others researching family. Daisy Smittle Johnson was a Great-Aunt to me. I remember her. Her son, Darrell Smittle, passed away last week and I had some information to add to the family history. I hope to get more as I went to the visitation and funeral for Darrell and met some cousins I had never met before. Darrell Smittle was a first cousin to my mother.
I see where you added Dave Smittle's family. The pictures are nice.
Is FamilySearch free? I tried to go to that page from what you put on the profile page, but wasn't sure if I had to subscribe or not.
As I talked to family members last week, I told them things I remember and asked it I remembered them correctly. One memory was of David Smittle being injured by a bull. His grandchildren told me that was true and they remember seeing the bruises from the bull getting him down.
Nice to communicate with you. My e-mail is [email address removed] I enjoy all the pictures and genealogy that gets added.
Oh, wow! I once met a Cowboy Bill (not related, as I was traveling through eastern WA) who was thrown from a bull and lived with a huge, long bruise on his side (shoulder to thigh). I'm so sorry Darrell recently passed away. According to WikiTree, he was my 4th cousin twice removed (your 2nd cousin, if I'm correct — it gets confusing). If he has a Find A Grave profile, I'll leave him virtual flowers. My condolences to family and friends.
I'm not sure who in the family uploaded the photos on FamilySearch, but I downloaded them and added them to the profiles on WikiTree.
The website is free to use. All I had to do was put in my email and make up a password to make myself an account on there. I've been using it for several months, and no ads or money requests have popped up, so it's a good website to use for genealogical research. I like the simplicity of copying and pasting the source citations from FamilySearch to WikiTree. It's a lot of back and forth, but it's so much better than adding sources from Ancestry . com (a lot of people can't view sources from Ancestry because they need an expensive subscription to view it. I only was able to start out with it because I had free access from my local public library's website). The only flaws I've come across is that the button called "Keep me logged in for 2 weeks" doesn't work, and if you don't want to log in every 30 minutes (and when you least expect it), just use your browser without ad blockers. (I use Brave instead of Chrome, so I recently went through that frustration and solved this problem by turning off the browser's ad shield and cookie blocker. Some websites can't function normally without the constant smell of cookies, unfortunately. Lol)
Oh, and if you want me to see your email, you'll need to go to my profile and send me a private message. WikiTree likes to protect its users' privacy by hiding emails people exchange publicly by replacing it with [email address removed].
I have to figure out what kind of cousins we are (your profile is mostly private, so I can't view it from my end), but you can either see from your end (go to my profile and scroll all the way down to see your geneological relationship to me) or I can look it up somehow.
Thanks for adding the info on Mollie, and her family, Arleen! If you ever bump into why "Coleman" was her middle name, I would be curious.... I'll also keep an eye out as I work on her siblings.
I do confirm Arleen as a full member. She has been an active genealogist for some years. Yes, I will 'help her', and she will help me, and others. She will probably be more active than I have been able to be for the last year or two.
