Genealogically Defined

Early Life

Robert Munroe was born on May 4, 1712, at Cambridge Farm (now Lexington), MIddlesex, Massachusetts[1][2], and baptized on May 18, 1712[3]. He was the son of George and Sarah (Unknown, but possibly Harrington) Munroe.

Family Life

Robert married Anna Stone on July 28, 1737, in Lexington, MIddlesex, Massachusetts[4][5]. They had 6 children:

  1. Ebenezer, b. February 5, 1737[6]
  2. Anna, b. August 13, 1740[6]
  3. Ruth, b. July 26, 1742[6]
  4. Ebenezer, b. November 15, 1744[6]
  5. John, b. June 15, 1748[7]
  6. Mary, bapt. October 7, 1753[7]

Their first and last children did not survive childhood. Robert was slain on April 19, 1775[8][2], on Lexington Common. Anna passed away on August 27, 1775, in Lexington[8].

Robert Munroe served in the French War in 1758, and again in 1762[2]. He was one of sixteen Munroe's who were members of Captain John Parker's Company of Minute Men, and held the rank of Ensign[9]. Robert was one of the 77 men present[10] when the Company met the British on the Common on the morning April 19, 1775, where he, along with seven other men, was slain[11].
