Biography

Marguerite was born May 21st 1817, she was the daughter of Louis Audet and his wife Marie Pelchat. She was baptized the same day in Sts-Gervais et Protais, godparents were Gervais Lacasse and Marguerite Dion wife of Louis Fournier.[1]

On April 30th 1839, in Ste-Claire-de-Dorchester, Jean Savache dit Rouleau (the first letter of Savache is an S not an L if a comparison is made to other entries in this register), living in this parish, adult son of Jacques Savache dit Rouleau and Marie Josephte Quemeneur dite Laflamme married Marguerite Audette dite Lapointe, also of this parish, adult daughter of Louis Audette dit Lapointe and Marie Louise Pelchat. Among the named witnesses are the bride's brothers Charles and Michel Audette dit Lapointe who both sign with the last name Audet.[2]

Discrepancy with Unsourced Family Tree

The family tree handed down to Bill Sinclair[4] has discrepancies with the parish records. He is in agreement to complete the tree following the available records. The information handed down to him differs as follows:

Marguerite was born about 1810. No baptismal record found for that name and year.

The marriage date of April 30th 1839 per the original unsourced family tree information is documented above and differs from his family history in that the bride is known as Marguerite Audet dite Lapointe and not Pelchat, which is her mother's name. In subsequent records Marguerite appears to use her mother's maiden name of Pelchat. No record of a Marguerite Pelchat marrying in that time period. Although it is possible this means Marguerite Pelchat is a different person it is more likely that Marguerite Audet dite Lapointe and Marguerite Pelchat are one and the same. There may be a story about Louis Audet dit Lapointe to explain her later use of Pelchat instead of Audet and/or Lapointe. Therefore she is properly referred to as: Marguerite Audet dite Lapointe dite Pelchat.

Pelchat-64 and Audet-768 appear to represent the same person because: LNAB per baptismal record is Audet. Used her mother's name Pelchat and her father's name Audet dit Lapointe at different points in her life. See narrative in Pelchat-64
