There has never been a Lord Hoprig in the Scots' Peerage. A clear source is required showing he held Hoprig.

It seems the wife Katherine Hamilton's DOB doesn't mesh with the husband's, off by centuries?

Hi PM's. I apologize for the changes. I found unlinked and mismatched profiles with wrong dates, so I marked all the William's and set them together with correct spouses. I am not sure about all the children, who don't have sources, so for the present, I followed how they appear to be listed here. Lives of the Baillies

Cheers.

The detail on the Bell family are very interesting. However, it would be good to see more evidence that this William Baillie had anything to do with the Bell family in a genealogical sense. None of the sources I have consulted connect Baillie with Bell. There is a suggestion that Baillie and Baliol are versions of the same name though even this is tenuous. I am inclined to treat this profile, insofar as it mentions Bell, with some skepticism.

They NEVER had the name Bell you are correct, going back the name was Ballileu according to family records, eventually it became BAILLIE This can be found in the BAILLIE Family book where I collected most of my references.
Baillie-1260 and Baillie-46 appear to represent the same person because: Appears to be a duplicate profile.

He could not have married someone who died in 1741. Catherine Hamilton is the name of son William's wife. Family Search has a Sarah Talbot (1369-1407) as this William's wife. It also has a Marion Seton (1430-1478) as the wife of his grandson William Baillie-44.

How can someone in 2014 have "first-hand information" from the 1300's and 1400's?

According to Burke's Family Records for Baillie, this William Baillie was married to Marion Seaton.
