Biography

Julia was born in 1870. She was the daughter of William Barnhart and Mariah Lucas. She passed away in 1941.[1]

Spouse 1. John Cort Wandall (1867-1895). His Find A Grave memorial states an 1866 birth year.[2]
The marriage record has not been located, but they married prior to the birth of their first-known son on 5 January 1890 in Scott County, Iowa. John and Julia (Barnhart) Wandell had four children, three of whom survived: Wilbur Coulpe Wandell on 5 January 1890;[3] John Lewis Wandell born 5 March 1891;[4] Robert Ives Wandell born 6 January 1893; Robert did not survive;[5] and Lena Wandell born 25 October 1894.[6]

1895 Iowa State Census, Scott County, Iowa.[7]
John Wandell age 29 born Pennsylvania. Married. Methodist.
Julia Wandell age 26 born Pennsylvania [circa 1869]. Married. Methodist.
Wilbur Wandell age 5 born Scott County
Louis Wandell age 4 born Scott County
Lena Wandell age zero born Scott County

John Wandell died 13 August 1895 by electric shock while working for the Tri-City Electric Sprinkler Company.

9 January 1896, Julia Wandell petitioned for letters of administration on the estate of John Wandell. She stated he was born at Hollenback, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, on 25 May 1867 and died at Davenport, Scott County, Iowa, on 13 August 1895, leaving no will, possessing no real estate, and owning personal property of household goods and wages due him from the Tri-City Sprinkler Company, none of which exceed the value of $50. She recommended S. W. Pierce as Administrator, who was appointed.
Itemized burial expenses by M. V. Boyes Company, Undertaker, for casket, embalming, hearse, gravesite, robe, and clothing totaled $58.50.
William Theophilus, attorney with the firm Scott & Theophilus, represented the estate in a claim against the Tri-City Electric Sprinkler Company for negligence in having caused John Wandell’s death while in the company’s employment. The claim was compromised in the sum of $200. The company also paid $20 for wages due John Wandell. The deceased’s debts were paid, leaving a balance of $135. In June 1896, widow Julia Wandell petitioned the court requesting that the estate administrator release the $135 balance to her for the support of her and three small children, two boys and one girl all under the age of eight years. The court approved releasing an allowance to Julia Wandell, which she received in various sums during 1896-1897. The estate was settled 5 May 1897. The file contains several of Julia Wandell’s signatures.[8]

Spouse 2. David Duplicy (about 1871-1932)[9]
The 1896 marriage record is problematic: a) it names Julia's former husband as John Reynolds deceased instead of Wandell; and b) Julia's surname is stated as Barnhart instead of Wandell. Nevertheless, Julia's age and parents appear to be accurate.[10] If the bride is indeed Julia (Barnhart) Wandell, the marriage ended quickly either by divorce or annulment as she next married Richard E. Furman about 1897.

Spouse 3. Richard E. Furman (1844-1919)[11]
The couple's marriage record has not yet been located; however, their 1900 census enumeration indicates they married about 1897, and Julia's daughter Lena by John C. Wandell is part of their household.

Julia and Richard Furman had two children: George Raymond Furman born 24 October 1900;[12] and Lydia Furman born 25 December 1902.[13]

Barnhart-1295 and Barnhart-1616 appear to represent the same person because: This is the same woman and family.

I dont think the Julia already listed is the right Julia nee Barnhart. Furman marr document show some possible misidentification points.

Furman '98 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9GYC-SZH8?cc=1589502 Duplicy '96 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9GYZ-8J?cc=1589502 BARNHART, REYNOLDS, DUPLICY '96, WANDELL, FURMAN '98. Appears that Reynolds and Wandell both died, then she married and divorced Duplicy and then married Furman? Her mother is listed as Eva on the Furman Doc. The children listed as Julia I. Barnharts Wandells in the 1895 IOWA census would have been Duplicy or Reynolds children and adopted by Wandell abt the time they went to Iowa. After his death she would have come back to pa and married Furman. But Wandells death date is listed as 1894, again on the Furman marriage certificate. Please help if you can. I havent been able to find marriage certs for Reynolds or Wandell.
