Biography

William was born about 1734.

William's daughter-in-law was also named Sarah Stewart. Her only child was born in 1804; the year she died. A good assumption is child-bed-fever. She was the wife of William's 10th. child, Isaac.

He passed away in 1789.

It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

Cowan-6040 and Cowan-1690 appear to represent the same person because: Most info matches. Same spouse (listed in bio). Son matches, birth dates are very close. Could easily be a mistake, especially during this time period.

I've merged the duplicates.

I'm not 'up' on this particular profile, so I'll leave it to y'all to set the birth & death dates up. I don't know what 'sources' might apply there. That 'Family Tree' might be a good candidate to move out of 'sources' and put into a category titled: = Research Notes =

Alright! Thanks for merging, Mike. I’ll try to clean up a little, but I’ll leave the research to the manager.

An on-going Y-DNA Study has tied this "Pequea Creek" Cowan clan to several other branches in Ireland, Scotland, England, Canada and USA. Cowan-2845 is just one example. The Y-Haplogroup is R-BY3644. Participation of other male Cowan in the Y-DNA study would be welcome. For more information contact the Profile Manager of Robert Cowan.

Funny birthdate needs to be reconciled with parent John Cowan's birthdate, but... merge is complete.
