I can see that Arthur has improved the biography with straighforward wording. However, the 1714 date actually should be footnoted as being in the Acquackanonk records, as the 1715 date belongs to Hackensack.

Here is part of the confusion.

The DRC records at Acquackanonk, I, Book 54, page 391, lists the birth of three children of Johannes Doremus and Elisabeth Akkerman: Abraham bo. Jan., 1714, ba. Jan 23, 1714 with witnesses Abraham Akkerman and Aeltje Van Laar; Aeltje bo. June 3, 1718, ba. June 19, 1718 with witnesses Andries Hoppe and Abigail Akkerman; Cornelis bo. Sept. 7, 1722, ba. Sept. 30, witnesses Hendrik Doremus and Antje Hesselse. Because the children in this part of the Acquackanonk register are listed in batches it does not have a strictly chronological order to know how they were handling calendar changes from December to January.

The DRC records at Hackensack, Book 62, page 194, shows the baptism of Abram on Jan. 23, 1715 (no birth date given) to Johannes Doremus and Elisabet Ackerman, witnesses Abram Ackerman and Aeltie his wife. This page shows a clear change from baptisms in Dec. 1714 and baptisms in Jan. as being in 1715.

William Nelson, in The History of the City of Paterson and the County of Passaic, New Jersey, 1900, page 335, says Johannes Doremus and Elisabeth Ackerman’s child Abram was bap. Jan 23, 1715 (no birth date mentioned).

Pat Wardell in her file on the Doremus family acknowledges the discrepancy. She notes under Johannes Doremus and Elisabeth Acerman that their child Abraham was “b. 2. Jan 1714; bp. 23 Jan 1714 Acquackanonk Ref Ch (wit: Abraham Ackerman, Aeltje Van Laer) (bp. also recorded Hackensack 23 Jan 1715).”

The DOB shown here is incorrect in that according to church records, he was born on 2 Jan 1714 and baptized in the Dutch Reformed Church in Acquackanonk, New Jersey on 23 Jan 1714. I would like to clean up the profile with a better bio and other information supported with references.

There are no restrictions on editing this profile. It does need more life details (if appropriate sources exist), a biography, full details of the church records cited, and convenience links (URLs) or other explicit indications of where the cited sources were accessed.

The discrepancy on year of birth/baptism is puzzling. This may be an instance where "corrections" were made by people who were confused about the possibility of double-dating. The Dutch churches did not use the Julian calendar, even after British takeover, so ates in Church records shouldn't be corrected.
