Research Notes

Moses was not married to Elizabeth Jane (Phillips), Duncan. They married on 28 Aug 1880 [uncertain] (to before 1889) in Anderson County, Tennessee. I'm making this note until this is cleared up and she's moved to the other profile - Lucy

I wrote FAM about all the sources showing a different dob of birth. I asked that they change the date on the source. 11/4/2021 - Lucy

Hey guys, If you pull up the Suggestion for Moses you'll see there is a DD error code on the profile. It's about the fact that the profile is PPP without a Project Box. You need to contact the TN project and ask them to become a pm and add him to the project. Then they should add the project box. If they don't want to then you have to remove the PPP and just use the sticker. I think it will be ok. Lucy

It appears that Elizabeth Jane Phillips is attached to the wrong Moses Smith Duncan as husband. The first wife (Rosie Jane Braden) of the Moses Smith Duncan she is presently attached to did not die until 24 Jun 1888 (which date is given on her profile). This would seem to preclude another marriage in 1880 unless there were proof of a divorce. The death of Rosie Jane is documented as 24 Jun 1888 in the The Pellissipian, Vol XVIII No. 2 (1997) in bible record transcription which clearly shows Moses Smith Duncan-14611 first married Rosie Jane Braden who died Jun 1888 and married second Pollie Emeryne Jones in Jan 1889. This Comment is part of Mentor conflict resolution. While records are still under review, primary source documentation reviewed to date appears to indicate that there are, in fact, two men named Moses Smith Duncan. It appears that Jane should more correctly be attached to Moses Smith Duncan-15767. The date of birth on Duncan-15767 should probably read 1858 rather than 1848 (see 1860 Census for that family). I should note that the bible record cited gives the year of birth of Duncan-14611 as 1851 rather than 1857 (original not seen, just the published transcription). If someone has a primary source documenting the year of birth of Duncan-14611 please let me know as that will help the process. Thank you.

As the comment by T Stanton notes, the 1860 census cited as a source on this profile shows the Moses Duncan in the Elijah Duncan household as 12 years old, which is inconsistent with a birth in either 1857 or 1851. I notice that there is a Moses S. Duncan on the same census sheet, in the household of Moses Duncan (age 62), who is recorded as 9 years old.
