Her will was written on 7 October 1789 and named "my four surviving children: William Webb, John Webb, Mary Smith & Elizabeth Vass." Her will was recorded in Granville County, North Carolina, in February 1795.[3]
Slaves
When her husband died in 1771, Mary inherited five enslaved people: James, Will, Jack, Frank, and Hannah. In the time between 1773 and 1777, Frank fathered an additional two people: Amos and Joe. On 21 November 1777, Mary divided these enslaved people among her children. (Her son Thomas Webb took his share of the inheritance in cash.) Mary had inherited these enslaved people for her lifetime, but apparently decided to make this estate division while she was still alive.[4]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:
As a member of the US Black Heritage Project, I have added a list of the people enslaved by Mary (Edmondson) Webb on this profile with categories using the standards of the US Black Heritage Exchange Program. This helps us connect enslaved ancestors to their descendants. Please see the Heritage Exchange Portal for more information.
