Biography

1868: According to the birth registers, Alfred and his twin brother Alexander were born on the 11th of November 1868 at Mount Cole, Victoria, Australia^[1] to William Free and his wife Eliza Flavell. Alfred was the younger of the twins. However, autosomal DNA testing of the descendants of the parents listed on the birth register, William Free and Eliza Flavell, and the descendant's of his future wife's parents Henry Tissott and Emma Sutherland, revealed an unexpected relationship between the two families.

1890: On the 4th of December 1890 Alfred married Emma Tissott, elder daughter of Henry Tissott (deceased) and Emma Sutherland at Yarpturk, Victoria, Australia^[2]. Witnesses at the wedding were all from the bride's family; her younger sister Maria A Tissott, her sister-in-law, Ellen Tissott, and one of her brothers Harry Tissott.

1917: On the 10th of March 1917 Alfred's wife Emma died in Cannington, Western Australia, Australia.^[3] She was buried in Karrakatta Cemetery, Karrakatta, Western Australia in the Church of Christ Section in the same plot as her brother Lewis Tissott.

1919: Alfred married again on the 8th of October 1919 in Northam, Western Australia, Australia^[4] and married Eunice Schmidtt, daughter of William Schmidtt and Amy Petche. They were both living at Waeel, Western Australia at the time and married in the Registry Office in Northam.

1946: Alfred died on the 22nd of January 1946 at Beverley, Western Australia^[5]. He was survived by his wife Eunice and his 7 children, Emma Louise, Alice Eliza, May Victoria, Charles William Alfred, Elsie Eunice, Arthur Donald and Violet Gertrude.
