Hi Lynn, and welcome to WikiTree! You mention ancestors in Scotland and Ireland. I wanted to let you know we have two great projects that focus on Scottish Clans and Irish Roots here called Scottish Clans Project and Irish Roots Project They might be places for you to get involved once you have settled into WikiTree.
You may find some of your ancestors are already on WikiTree and the people in both Projects will be happy to help you in any way they can. Thank you so much for joining WikiTree. Volunteers are what make it such an awesome place to share our family ties.
Lynn , you do not need a gedcom to have a tree here . I , myself, enter my folks now one - by - one on WikiTree as it gives me time to source , and research as I go along.
You now have full access to all the features of WikiTree. If you need any help getting started, we have our Help Index with links to topics you may have questions on. Having trouble starting your tree ? Use http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Adding_Family or watch one of the how- to videos in the Help section, like the Wikitree's introduction video by Paul.

p.s Here is our honor code if you would like to uphold our mission.
Hello, I am a retired lawyer and budding genealogist interested in collaborating with other disciplined researchers. My ancestors are predominately of Scottish/Irish/English origin, arriving in [what was to become] America beginning in the mid-1600s. I am happy to share family photos/records. I have built an extensive family tree on Ancestry.com but would like to migrate to Wikitree. I do not have my information in a GEDCOM format but will try to figure out how to do that. I look forward to working with one and all.
You are probably wondering how WikiTree works. WikiTree is a free, collaborative genealogy site.
If you read Should I use WikiTree ? and view the WikiTree video and still have questions , let me know.
If you would like to join WikiTree, post a comment on your profile to let one of our greeters know that you understand our genealogy mission and we will gladly add you.
