James Gillespie served with Rowan County Regiment, North Carolina Militia during the American Revolution.
James Gillespie was born in about 1745 in Augusta, Virginia, Colonial America. James was the olest child of Thomas Gillespie and Naomi Thompson Gillespie. James married Jane Graham on Jan 9, 1765 in Rowan County, North Carolina. James died in about Feb 1787[1] and before his father (Will date Nov 1797 and death on Dec 7, 1797), so his father's inheritance went to James's oldest son Thomas. James's burial location is not known for sure, but probaly was Thyatira Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Jane died in about 1823.[2]
A Thomas Gillespie presented a James Gillespie for baptism on 18 March 1744, at the Tinkling Springs Presbyterian Church in Augusta, County, Virgina.
This may have been the James Gillespie, who moved to Rowan County with his parents, Thomas and Naomi. This christening would have been prior to ir about the same time as the estimated marriage date of Thomas and Naomi on Jan 1, 1745.[3]
It is believed that James Gillespie, like his father and brothers, served in the Revolutionary War in some capacity. There are other James Gillespie's in other parts of North Carolina, but it is believed that these sources refer to this James Gillespie of Rowan County.[5]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
Gillespie-3677 and Gillespie-3095 do not represent the same person because: These are two different people, James A. married Jane R. and had children in 1838 and 1840
Gillespie-3677 and Gillespie-3095 appear to represent the same person because: Based birth and death dates and the fact they resided in the same area in North Carolina, it app ears these are the same persons. I have worked down from Archibald Gillespie and up from Thomas to identify all sourcing.
I believe this profile is the same as Jame A. Gillespie. The place and dates of birth don't appear to be right here but the son of Thomas Gillespie would have been born in Rowan County, NC. There are no references here other than the will. There is a marriage bond in Rowan for the other James Gillespie.
