Biography

Pierre Giroir was born 10 Oct 1721. He was the son of Francois Girouard and Anne Bourgeois. He was baptized the same day at Annapolis Royal. His godparents were Pierre Leblanc and Magdelaine Bourgeois.[1][2]

He married Marie Josephe Forest, daughter of Joseph and Marie Jeanne Guilbeau 4 February 1743, Annapolis Royal, Acadia. Witnesses were François Giroir, Jean Forest, Joseph Gregoire Bourgeois and Etienne Commo.[3]

Around 1755, Pierre was deported to South Carolina aboard the Syren, without his family, and then to England. From there, he fled to France. He was in Rochefort first, then in Bordeaux where he boarded La Sirenne that left on 7 March 1758. He and 2 other Acadian exiles, Jean-Baptiste Brun and Joseph LeBlanc disembarked at the port of Quebec City on 19 May 1758. [5]

During the Great Upheaval, separated from François, Marie Josèphe had sought refuge on Isle Saint-Jean with their children. She managed to escape the deportation that took place there in 1758 by deciding to seek refuge in Canada, Nouvelle-France (present-day Quebec). In October or November 1757, a vessel transported her and children Pierre, Marie-Louise, Marie-Anastasie, Joseph, Marguerite and Jean-Baptiste to the port of Quebec. [5] Marie-Josèphe died 2 months later on 5 January 1758, during the smallpox epidemic that was raging in the city. Their son Joseph died the same day, Pierre the next day, Jean-Baptiste on the 7th or 8th of January, and Marguerite in May.

Pierre married Madeleine Doucet, daughter of François Doucet and Marie-Anne Poirier, widow of François Cormier, on 18 February 1760, in Deschambault, Canada, Nouvelle-France. [6] Madeleine had also lost 4 young children between 1756 and 1758, and her husband François was deported to Georgia and died in exile around 1760.

Girouard dit Malouin-2 and Girouard-4692 appear to represent the same person because: Same dates and spouse. Merging into Girouard-4692 without the dit name. Dit Malouin goes into "nickname" field.
