In 1855, Mary (age 2), her parents Alexander (45, carpenter) and Emeline (33), and her brother Charles Holmes Groesbeck (10) were domiciled in Pittsfield, Berkshire County in the home of George W. (21, carpenter) and Adelia Ormsby (22).[3]
Five years later Alexander (age 48, carpenter) and Emeline (47) had their own home in Lee, where they resided with their children Mary A. (6), Charles (14) and Delia Groesbeck (3), as well as a five-month-old baby George M. Robey.[4]
Mary (age 11), her parents Alexander (53, carpenter) and Emeline (52) and siblings Charles C. (18, soldier), Delia (8) and Franklin Nash Groesbeck (5) remained in Lee in 1865.[5]
Mary died at age 11 due to diphtheria on 5 September 1865 in Lee.[1][2]
Research Notes
There is a discrepancy in the records. The death index says she was 4 years, 4 months, and 4 days old with the birth in 1861.
The 1865 census says she is 11 years old, born in 1854, as does her burial record.

↑ 2.02.12.2Massachusetts Deaths, 1841-1915, database with images, FamilySearch (10 March 2018), Mary A. Groesbeck, 05 Sep 1865; citing Lee, Berkshire, Massachusetts, vol. 183, p.44, State Archives, Boston; FHL microfilm 960,186. Although this record indicates Mary died at age four, I believe it is a clerical error in the index.

However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:
