Biography

Sophia (Hieb) Bittner was a Black Sea German.

Birth

Sophia was born on March 25, 1854 in the village of Neudorf in the Glückstal district of the Odessa area and Black Sea region of South Russia to Balthasar Hieb and Carolina (Ohlauser) Hieb. She was the ninth of their 10 children. Sophia was baptized on March 28, 1854.^[1]

Immigration

On May 13, 1874, at the age of 19, Sophia, her parents, and 1 sibling arrived in Baltimore, MD aboard the S.S. Hermann traveling from Bremen, Germany.^[2]

Family

In 1876, around the age of 22, Sophia married Jacob Bittner (1852-1926).
