Henry N. Himes was born in Pennsylvania in 1835.[1] His parents were David Himes, a carpenter, and his wife Elizabeth Himes. In the 1850 U.S. Census, Henry was listed as 15 years old and residing in Caernarvon Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, with his parents and four sisters.[2]
During the American Civil War, Henry Himes served with the rank of private in Company I, 42nd Regiment, Pennsylvania Militia from 6 July to 12 August, 1863.[1]
Henry married Amelia Stuart (Stewart). The family resided in Caernarvon Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania. The 1880 census recorded Henry Himes as a carpenter, age 47, in a household that also included his wife Amelia Himes, age 41; daughters Mary E. Himes, 16, Elizabeth C. Himes, 14, Florance M. Himes, 10, Sarah J. Himes, 6, and Phoebe Ann Himes, 3; and son David H. Himes, 8. Another daughter, Margrett F. Himes, age 11 or 12, was listed in her family's record with the notation "Lives out" and was also recorded as a servant living in the nearby household of farmer Peter Swartzintruber and his wife Katy.[3]
He died on 9 May 1882 and was buried in Caernarvon Cemetery, Morgantown, Pennsylvania.[1]
