Elizabeth, unmarried, twin daughter of John Hobbs Eleanor Devilbiss, was born 8 September 1836 in Emmitsburg, Frederick County, Maryland.[1]

There were nine children—all born in Maryland including Elizabeth—still living on the family farm (valued at $2,500 or $2.6 million in 2021)[2] in Emmitsburg when the 1850 census was taken:[3]
