Hi Beth. This is a friendly reminder that sources are very important, especially for pre-1700 profiles like Mary Margaret Mitchell (abt.1693-1777). "Netherlands, Genealogie Online Trees Index," is not considered a reliable and sufficient source. Our community standard is that all pre-1700 profiles require at least one reliable source be cited in order to proceed with creation. (Please see Help citing pre-1700 profiles). This is the link to Reliable Sources page that has the various projects sourcing guidelines. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Reliable_Sources_for_Pre-1700_Profiles.

Thanks, Gisèle Cormier

Hi Beth- I am writing as it won't allow me to send a private message. Recently you connected several members to the Belcher Mitchell tree and I have gone through and explained why they are disconnected including Rebecca Clay Tiller and Wm Mitchell Clay, Jr. I don't want to get in to specifics on your page but please message me if there is a question and I will respond since I can't seem to send an email to you.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend. Cheers! Becks

Cheers - but as you can see it doesn't allow for them to be posted; same as with profiles, older profiles with uploaded emails in the bios/sourcing have error flags and can't be saved with an edit if an email address is anywhere on the page...not sure why I rambled about that other than to show privacy is very serious to WikiTree. If you aren't using a cellphone you should be able to send a private message to my account but since I am using one; I currently cannot use that function.

Hi Beth, I see you have a brand spanking new pre-1700 badge! This is just a friendly note to say that we do take sourcing of our older ancestors seriously on WikiTree. I noticed that you created a profile for John Bellshire-Belcher, born 1670, and citing only "Ancestry.com" as a source. This is not considered to be a sufficient source for pre-1700 or any other profile. You need to go back to any profile that has only this source, and add the name of the collection and other identifying information to the citation, with a link to the record. Ancestry provides this information for each record - just copy it into the profile, and copy the URL that you found it on. However please remember, an Ancestry Family Tree is not a valid source for a WikiTree pre-1700 profile, nor are some of their other collections that were identified in your pre-1700 badge quiz. In those cases, you would need to search for other sources to validate the profile.

I also noticed the last name of "Bellshire-Belcher". If he actually had this hyphenated compound last name at the time of his birth, it's good (and a source should show it). But if it was an attempt to show multiple name possibilities, that's not the way to show it on WikiTree. You would need to change it to the name that would have been their Last Name at Birth (LNAB) - generally from the earliest record found such as a birth or baptism record - then enter the other name as either "Current Last Name" or "Other Last Name." If a name was purposely changed, that should also be documented in the profile.

I hope this helps. Thanks for joining WikiTree - We look forward to your continued contributions to the Tree!

It is also a triplicate profile as are the other ancestors uploaded in this family line. I have left public notes for merges and private message but received no response and hoped someone else may be able to offer this advice. Thank you very much!

Hi Beth,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles!

It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Welcome to WikiTree, Elizabeth!

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.
